Configuring Speaker Change Behavior

The Speaker Change Behavior setting can be found in the Languages tab for each preset. To configure a preset:

  • Click Settings in the navigation menu on the left hand side of the MediaScribe user interface.
  • Click the pencil icon to edit the preset you wish to change.
  • Choose the Languages tab and scroll to the bottom where the Speaker Change Behavior setting is located.

There are three options that can be selected.

  • Single Space - Default behavior, inserts a single space between speakers.
  • New Line - Inserts a new line when a change in speaker occurs.
  • Insert New Line with Prefix - Inserts a new line and allows configuring a custom prefix.

When using Insert New Line with Prefix it is important to keep prefixes short if you are using Closed Caption or Open Caption outputs. Closed Captioning only supports up to 32 characters per line, including the custom prefix. Prefixes that are too long can potentially interfere with closed caption encoding.

Keep Speaker Change Prefixes Short

Keep speaker change prefixes 1-3 characters to avoid encoding when outputting closed captions. Common prefixes include:

  • -
  • >
  • >>
