Scheduling Cablecast When Daylight Saving Time Changes

Last Updated:October 28, 2026

This Article Applies To

The automatic Daylight Saving Time adjustment applies to Cablecast 7.10 and later. If you're on an earlier version, see Earlier Versions of Cablecast below.

Overview

Cablecast adjusts the schedule automatically when Daylight Saving Time begins or ends. You can schedule programming through the changeover as you would on any other night. The schedule removes or adds an hour, so it may look a little different around 1:00–3:00 AM, but playback runs as scheduled.

Spring: Clocks Move Forward

On the night the clocks move forward, the schedule day is 23 hours long. The 2:00 AM hour doesn't exist, so the schedule goes straight from 1:30 AM to 3:00 AM.

  • A show that runs through 2:00 AM ends an hour later on the clock than its run time suggests. For example, a 58-minute show that starts at 1:30 AM ends at 3:28 AM.

  • If you enter a start time between 2:00 and 2:59 AM, Cablecast moves it forward one hour. For example, 2:30 AM becomes 3:30 AM.

Fall: Clocks Move Back

On the night the clocks move back, the schedule day is 25 hours long. The 1:00 AM hour happens twice, so the 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM gap rows appear twice in the schedule.

Empty schedule for the fall Daylight Saving Time change showing a 25-hour gap, with the 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM rows listed twice.
  • A show that runs through the changeover ends an hour earlier on the clock than its run time suggests. For example, a 10-hour show that starts at 10:00 PM ends at 6:59 AM instead of 7:59 AM.

  • A start time you enter between 1:00 and 1:59 AM is placed in the first 1:00 AM hour.

Schedule for the fall Daylight Saving Time change showing a 58-minute show starting at 12:45 AM and ending at 1:43 AM, followed by the repeated 1:00 AM hour.

Tip: If you'd rather not schedule during the changeover, leave a gap from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM. Your channel plays its default source, such as Cablecast CG or a Carousel bulletin board, during that time.

Earlier Versions of Cablecast

Versions earlier than 7.10 don't adjust the schedule for Daylight Saving Time. Scheduling during the changeover can cause programming to play at the wrong time or skip.

On the night of each change, leave the schedule blank from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM. Your channel plays its default source, such as Cablecast CG or a Carousel bulletin board, during that time. Schedule your next program to start at 3:01 AM or later.

Summary

You can schedule through Daylight Saving Time changes. Cablecast removes an hour in the spring and adds one in the fall. End times and gap rows around the changeover may look unusual, but playback isn't affected. On versions earlier than 7.10, leave the schedule blank from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM instead.
