Downloading Sidecar Files in MediaScribe Live

After a recording is processed and transcribed, MediaScribe Live makes sidecar caption files available for download. This article covers how to access and download those files from the Files section.

Accessing a Recording

  • In the left navigation, select Files.

  • Locate the recording you want to work with and open it.

  • The recording detail page displays the video player, media details (created date, last updated), and an Available Files panel on the right.

Available Files Panel

The Available Files panel lists each language for which caption output has been generated. In most cases, this will be English by default.

Each language row includes two action icons:

Icon

Function

Edit (pencil icon)

Opens the caption editor.

Download (document icon)

Opens the download format menu.

Downloading Sidecar Files

To download a caption file:

  • Click the download icon (document icon) next to the language you want.

  • A dropdown menu appears with the following format options:

    • SCC (Scenarist Closed Captions) – commonly used for broadcast workflows.

    • SRT (SubRip Text) – widely supported across video platforms and players.

    • TXT (plain text) – transcript with no timecode formatting.

    • VTT (Web Video Text Tracks) – used for web-based video players and HTML5 content.

  • Select your desired format. The file will download immediately.

Notes

  • Downloaded files reflect the caption content at the time of download. If edits have been made in the caption editor after the original transcription, download again to get the updated version.

  • The Usage panel in the lower-left sidebar shows remaining caption and translation hours for your account.
